Government monitors H2S levels in sales gas very strictly and any application failing to meet these standards would have to endure severe economic consequences. High H2S levels will force a shut down of an offshore production platform, it can even poison the catalyst during the downstream process. When the levels are reduced drastically, it will increase the operating costs during the removal/recovery operation. Hence reliability and accuracy are key points in an analyzer. True, H2S can absorb a good amount of UV, but it is a very strong absorber. This makes the analyzer capable of direct measurement at high levels. While operating in low ppm levels, usually during sales gases, it is important that the sensitivity is increased like operating sample cell at high pressure.
